The House William B. Harvard Built for His Family
09/08/26
Designed by the architect behind some of Tampa Bay’s most recognizable landmarks, this distinctive Snell Isle residence was home to three generations of the Harvard family.

The man who designed the original St. Petersburg Pier built this house for his family.
William B. Harvard Sr. — the architect behind the iconic Inverted Pyramid Pier, the Williams Park Bandshell, the Dalí Museum, and some of the most recognized buildings in Tampa Bay history — designed 838 Monterey Boulevard NE on Snell Isle for the way his family actually wanted to live.
Three generations called it home.
And it shows every one of them.
When I first saw this house before it came to market, every room was a different vibrant color — reds, yellows, blues, greens. The home of an artist who treated her walls the way other people treat canvas. They have softened the palette now. But walk through it and you feel the creative life that filled these rooms for decades. Paint splatter still on her studio floor.
This is not a move-in ready home. Kitchen, bathrooms, flooring, windows — everything needs attention. Plan for 12 to 24 months and a serious renovation budget. What you cannot build is what is already here: solid concrete construction at high elevation, storm-protected and proven over decades of Florida weather. A two-story entry foyer over four thousand square feet of generous, flexible space. A stainless steel front door. Original George Nelson light fixtures. An elevator. Glass railings on two levels of balconies. A boat dock on a waterfront lot on one of Snell Isle's most serene streets.
The bones were designed by a master. There is no other house in St. Petersburg quite like this one — and there never will be.
This is exactly what exclusive buyer representation looks like in practice — seeing a property the way it could be, not just the way it is, before my clients ever need to ask.
For the right buyer, this is not a project. It is a legacy.
